RICHMOND — Democrat Abigail Spanberger continued her campaign cash advantage over Republican Winsome Earle-Sears during September in the Virginia governor’s race, though the GOP candidate accelerated her fundraising in early October following the texting scandal that has roiled the downballot race for attorney general.
Spanberger raised $12.6 million in September and, after expenditures, was left with $5.4 million in the bank, according to an analysis by the nonpartisan Virginia Public Access Project. Earle-Sears raised $9.1 million in the same period and finished with $1.6 million in cash, according to VPAP.
Democrats continued to outpace Republicans in fundraising for lieutenant governor and, overall, in elections for the House of Delegates, where all 100 seats are on the Nov. 4 ballot
