HUMBOLDT PARK — A vacant Humboldt Park building will be turned into the neighborhood’s first cannabis dispensary.

The dispensary proposal for 2735 W. North Ave., a corner storefront that’s been vacant and abandoned for over a decade, was approved by City Council on Thursday. It received zoning approval earlier this week after getting mostly positive feedback from neighbors at a July community meeting.

“Neighbors viewed the project as an opportunity to activate a long-vacant storefront and bring investment, lighting and a greater sense of safety to an underserved corridor,” Ald. Jessie Fuentes (26th) wrote about the proposal in a July newsletter after the meeting.

It will be Humboldt Park’s first dispensary; neighboring Logan Square has three dispensaries, and Bucktown has four.
