ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- An Albany County jury has convicted a Watervliet man of a dirt bike crash that left a UAlbany student severely injured in April 2024 and of leaving the scene of the crash. NEWS10 crews were in the courtroom when Austin Breyette was found guilty of second-degree assault, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, and two counts of tampering with physical evidence in the crash.

The jury convicted Breytte of hitting Alexa Kropf while illegally driving a dirt bike on a public road in Albany on April 27, 2024. During the opening statements on October 7, prosecutors said Kropf's body was ripped from her shoes during the collision.

Breyette took the stand on October 15 for hours, stating he never meant for this to happen and it was a "spur-of-the-moment decision"
