Human remains were found at a site where Central Hudson was installing a gas main, New York State Police said.

Troopers from the state police barracks in Montgomery responded just before 1:40 p.m. Oct. 14 to a report of human remains being found near Sloop Hill Road in the Town of New Windsor.

State police said the remains were discovered during an excavation conducted by Central Hudson as part of a gas line installation project.

The Troop F Forensic Identification Unit and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation from the state police barracks in Montgomery are continuing the investigation.

State police said the investigation is in its early stages. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
