Steven McBee Sr., star of "The McBee Dynasty: Real American Cowboys," was sentenced to 24 months in prison nearly a year after pleading guilty to crop insurance fraud.
On Thursday, Oct. 16, U.S. District Court Judge Stephen R. Bough ordered McBee to 24 months in prison and another two years on supervised release, according to court records obtained by USA TODAY. He has also been ordered to pay $4,022,124 in restitution.
The 52-year-old from Missouri must self-surrender before 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 1 and will then be transferred to a federal prison in Yankton, South Dakota. His attorneys are requesting that the court consider a supervised release.
Last November, McBee pleaded guilty to a "multi-million dollar fraud scheme" between 2018 and 2020, resulting in an over $4 million loss to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Following the plea, the Department of Justice said he must forfeit more than $3.1 million to the government.
At the time, the BravoTV star admitted submitting a false report to a company that downplayed his 2018 corn crop total by around 674,000 bushels and his 2018 soybean crop total by around 155,000 bushels.
Through the scheme, he profited over $2.6 million in federal crop insurance benefits and over $552,000 in federal crop insurance premium subsidies that he was not entitled to, said the DOJ in a news release.
He also admitted to committing fraud in 2019 and 2020, including falsifying information to receive insurance benefits he was not entitled to.
McBee previously starred in the Bravo reality series alongside his ex-wife Kristi McBee, as well as his sons Steven Jr., Jesse, Cole, and Brayden McBee. The show follows the operations of the families McBee Farm and Cattle as well as the farming and ranching industry in Missouri.
The series concluded its second season last month and has been renewed for Season 3 ahead of McBee's sentencing, Variety reported.
