MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — Dozens of parents gathered at Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) headquarters in Rockville on Thursday to send a message: the current proposals to redraw school boundaries will do more harm than good.
Karin Fleschner says she moved to Montgomery County in 2004 and sent her kids to the neighborhood schools in Silver Spring, but she says the disparities between schools in the county were obvious.
“Look at sports, when our kids play in the rich areas, or in the wealthier areas, they always lose!” she said. “Listen to the kids who need the most support.”
Earlier this year, the school district announced four proposals to redraw school boundaries to ease overcrowding and make room for the new Charles W. Woodward High in Rockville and Crown High in Gaithersburg.
