London police officers are now patrolling city buses as part of the force’s crackdown on public drug use.
Officers from the foot patrol unit recently began boarding London Transit buses travelling through downtown, midtown and Old East Village in response to drug use on buses, Chief Thai Truong said.
“We have heard some concerns from city transit and we are addressing those concerns,” Truong said. “It’s not a secret. Our officers are currently on the buses . . . as a normal course of patrol from time to time to address concerns about open substance use.”
Bus riders can expect to see uniformed officers board buses, engage with riders and stay on for a few stops, Truong said.
