MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Wisconsin became the first state in the country to formally condemn Russia’s abduction of Ukrainian children during the Russia-Ukraine war on Thursday.
A bipartisan coalition of Wisconsin legislators introduced a joint resolution condemning Russia’s forced removal of nearly 20,000 Ukrainian children since the start of the war.
“Children should be playing soccer, going to school, being tucked in at night by their parents. Instead, they’ve been taken. Stolen,” said State Rep. Chris Sinicki, D-Milwaukee.
The resolution was presented while negotiations continue to end Russia’s war on Ukraine. On Thursday, President Donald Trump spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The president is also expected to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday.
