CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The United States Drought Monitor for North and South Carolina didn't see much change from last week, with the exception of improvement along the coast.
However, concerns continue to grow due to a lack of rainfall.
Charlotte is very often drier than normal during the fall and winter months, as some of our driest months occur this time of year. But it's not often we're already in a rainfall deficit.
Year to date, Charlotte is 4.5 inches drier than average.
For comparison purposes, Charlotte would need approximately 7 - 10 inches of rain in the next month to get out of the drought and back to normal.
In three months, the numbers jump to 14 to 19 inches.
Again, during our driest time of year, this is extremely unlikely to happen.
