WELLTON, AZ (AZFamily) — Arizona border wall construction projects worth $807 million are moving forward despite the federal government shutdown entering its 16th day, the Department of Defense announced.

The Trump administration has awarded $4.5 billion in contracts over recent weeks to add or replace about 200 miles of physical barriers and install new surveillance technology along about 400 miles of the border.

The administration calls the initiative the “smart wall,” which includes barriers, patrol roads, lights, cameras and other technology.

Two of the 10 projects that received funding are located in Arizona.

The Tucson 1 Project received $607 million for 23 miles of new secondary wall and 66 miles of “system attributes” covering the Tucson and Yuma sectors.
