The Islanders earned their first victory of the season — they were the last team in the NHL to earn at least a point — with a 4-2 win over the Oilers on Thursday night at UBS Arena to conclude a three-game homestand.

Bo Horvat scored a hat trick, on the power play, shorthanded and an empty netter. No. 1 overall pick Matthew Schaefer’s secondary assist on Horvat’s power-play winner with a one-timer from the slot at 15:14 of the third period made him the youngest player in NHL history to start his career with a four-game point streak. Mathew Barzal had given Horvat a perfect feed.
