TORONTO – The Rangers keep promising that if they continue to do all the things they’ve been doing, the goals will come eventually.

Juuso Parssinen turned out to be the one to ultimately break the ice, with his first goal of the season, early in the third period, rallying the Rangers from a deficit and forcing overtime. But the Leafs won it when Auston Matthews scored 58 seconds into the extra period to give Toronto a 2-1 win.

Igor Shesterkin made 22 saves for the Rangers, who outshot Toronto 29-24.
