MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Governor Jeff Landry says the special session will focus on election code, dates, deadlines, and plans for the 2026 election cycle.

District 14 Rep. Echols says he anticipates a primary delay.

“The goal there is to give the Supreme Court time to rule on the constitutionality of what we just went through over the last map,” Echols said. “So I essentially see us pushing back those election dates by a month or two. We can still complete the election in time.”

District 34 Senator Katrina Jackson-Andrews believes that a delay and the session itself to be unnecessary.

“Now we don’t have a Supreme Court ruling,” Jackson-Andrews said. “I’ve heard nothing, and maybe I will hear something, but I’ve heard nothing to suggest that Secretary Nancy Landry hasn’t properly prepared
