NEW LONDON, Conn. — In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, one survivor is turning her story of pain into a message of hope and using her experience to support others who feel trapped in abusive relationships.

Powerful stories and emotional testimonies filled the room at Mitchell College in New London on Thursday, where survivors shared their journeys and encouraged others to break their silence.

Denisse Luciano, motivational speaker and advocate for domestic violence victims, said at the event that she hopes to reach those who still live in fear.
