NV Energy and UNR are collaborating to expand the university’s ALERTWildfire Camera Network, adding 15 new wildfire detection cameras in Southern Nevada, they announced today.

NV Energy has partnered with ALERTWildfire for the past seven years. The company received approval from the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada to support the installation of 53 new cameras operated by UNR’s ALERTWildfire network.

The cameras will “help fill critical coverage gaps” across the state, allowing public safety teams to make faster, more informed decisions when wildfires are sparked, said ALERTWildfire Director Bill Savran in a news release.
