Special to The Desert Sun

The little schoolhouse on the grounds of the nonprofit Coachella Valley History Museum in Indio is a fascinating slice of life from an earlier day. It has a potbellied stove, desks in graduating sizes, a cloak room, a belfry with a school bell, a black board that is black and yes, an outhouse.

But this little schoolhouse is intertwined with a storied past.
