Journalist and author Michael Wolff believes there is a "very real possibility" that President Donald Trump will run again in 2028 because allowing the Democrats to take power would be "devastating" for him.
Wolff discussed the prospect of Trump running for office again during the new episode of "Inside Trump's Head," a podcast Wolff co-hosts with Joanna Coles, the chief content officer at The Daily Beast. Wolff predicted that Trump "will have to" run for office again because of the wide-ranging authoritarian actions his administration has taken.
"These are the moves of an authoritarian, clearly," Wolff said. "And the problem with this is that an authoritarian breaks so many rules and makes so many enemies that in order to avoid retribution, he has to stay in power."
Trump has previously denied that he will run for office a third time, which is unconstitutional under the 22nd Amendment. The last president to serve more than two terms was Franklin Roosevelt.
However, Trump and his surrogates have been distributing "Trump 2028" merchandise, which has led some to believe that the president is seriously considering running again.
"That is the nature of the game that is being played," he continued. "So, if he has four years of dominating government, all branches of government...it becomes a very real possibility that he will undo the impediments to a third term as he pursues this course.
"He will have to do that because the consequences of the Democrats taking power would be devastating for him," Wolff added.
Wolff himself has also been the source of some controversy. High-profile people like Tony Blair and Sean Hannity have denied quotes published by Wolff in his books.
