TOLEDO, Ohio — Dry conditions have worsened over the past month, with most of northwest Ohio in an extreme drought. While downpours are forecasted to arrive this weekend, don't expect it to automatically alleviate the drought - a lot more rain would be needed to accomplish that.

WTOL 11 Chief Meteorologist Chris Vickers ran the numbers. He said, according to NOAA data, 1,146,984,960,000 gallons of water - approximately 1.7 million Olympic-sized swimming pools' worth of water - would be needed to return the entire region to pre-drought conditions.

That's a huge number; to put it into perspective, that means all 11,000 square miles of northwest Ohio would need to see 6 inches of rain in the next 30 days - which isn't in the forecast. Saturday's rain is expected to bring appr
