Half a dozen people, including a faith leader, were detained as protests got underway at the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Broadview Friday morning.

The protests, which were supposed to start at 9 a.m., began early with back and forth shoving, shortly before 8 a.m. at 1930 Beach St.

Among those arrested was Pastor Hannah Kardon, who leads the United Church of Rogers Park.

As of 9:20 a.m., about 50 protesters and about 12 Illinois State Police troopers remained on the scene, which had quieted down.

Broadview Mayor Katrina Thompson signed a new executive order earlier this week, s hrinking the designated “free speech zones” for demonstrations outside the west suburb’s facility, citing protests that devolved into “chaos” over the weekend.
