2024 was a career year for Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Seth Lugo. The then 34 year-old signed with the Royals in free agency, and rewarded the team with 3.00 ERA across 206.2 innings of work. Lugo finished second in the American League Cy Young award voting, behind Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal. I think most observers realized that this was likely going to be the best Lugo season that the Royals were going to benefit from. Still, most of us hoped that he could take the ball every five days and continue to give the Royals quality starts.
