Health officials are encouraging vaccination to prevent serious illness and slow the spread of respiratory viruses.

Appointments for both COVID-19 and flu vaccinations – free for anyone who lives, works or goes to school in Ontario – are already open province-wide for high-risk populations and priority groups. That includes people aged 65 and older and anyone six months and up who is moderately to severely immunocompromised, according to the provincial government’s website.
Jaime Fletcher, chief nursing officer and manager of vaccine-preventable diseases at Southwestern Public Health (SWPH) – the health unit that oversees Oxford and Elgin counties and St. Thomas – said “those at highest risk for these illnesses can approach the pharmacies or their health care provider
