Bristol company MAYK closing down amid 'impossible' challenges View Image

A Bristol-based arts production company which put on performances all over the world has closed down after nearly fifteen years, citing financial pressures.

MAYK, which had been operating since 2011 and also hosted the popular Mayfest, a bi ennial festival of contemporary theatre and live performance, has shut amid a "grim" overall picture for the UK arts scene, according to its founders. St Anne's House, which was home to MAYK is not affected.

"It is with huge sadness that we announce the closure of MAYK," co-founders Kate Yedigaroff and Matthew Austin said in a joint statement.

They continued: "It’s the last thing we wanted to do, but we are left with no choice. It has become impossible to continue.
