SIKESTON, Mo. (WSIL) -- The Sikeston Department of Public Safety responded to a ShotSpotter alert for gunshots on Thursday evening in the 400 block of East Gladys Street.

Shortly after the ShotSpotter report, police said they received multiple calls about hearing gunshots in the area as well.

Police said a gunshot victim was taken to a local hospital but later died from their injuries. The victim's name is being withheld due to the age and for the family's privacy.

The SEMO Major Case Squad is investigating the incident.

It is unknown if there is a suspect in custody or any other details at this time.
