NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - A Norfolk judge has ordered Ronnie Nyamekye Campbell, 22, into inpatient state hospital treatment after finding him not guilty by reason of insanity in the second-degree murders of his father and grandmother in 2024, according to a news release from the Norfolk Commonwealth's Attorney's Office.
Campbell will remain in custody pending the court’s review of his mental health progress.
The murders occurred on February 8, 2024. Campbell stabbed his 46-year-old father, Ronnie Credle Campbell, and his 64-year-old grandmother, Arneta Marie Thagard, at their home on Dunkirk Avenue.
The younger Ronnie Campbell lived with his grandmother. His father did not live with them.
