A suspect has been arrested after he allegedly assaulted two nurses at an emergency room in Duluth on Thursday.

The incident was reported at the Essentia Health Emergency Room at Essentia St. Mary's Medical Center at around 3 a.m., with both female nurses requiring treatment for minor injuries.

The patient was restrained by staff before police could arrive, and he was taken into custody.

No details have been released as to what sparked the assault, but it has been condemned by the Minnesota Nurses Association, which claims it's the result of "years of inaction and conditions that put staff and patients at risk at Essentia," which the union says includes inadequate staffing at its hospitals.
