Staff at two Fort Erie food banks agree that a door-to-door food drive like ones held in other parts of Niagara would be an ambitious task for the community, but also one that could be pulled off.

Next weekend, the Port Colborne Lions Club will continue its more-than-40-year-old tradition of collecting donations for Port Cares from driveways and porches across the city.

On Nov. 1, a collective of volunteers and organizations in Welland will do the same and bring in thousands of pounds of food, along with cash donations, split between three food banks in that community.

At these events, trucks head into designated parts of each city with volunteers quickly walking behind and gathering donations from homes.
