The Trump administration asked the U.S. Supreme Court on Friday to undo an order that has blocked it from deploying National Guard troops within Illinois for more than a week.
Solicitor General John Sauer wrote in the application to the high court that the Oct. 9 order from U.S. District Judge April Perry, as modified by the appeals court in Chicago, “eviscerates the president’s order” deploying the guard.
“It deprives [Department of Homeland Security] officers of the protections that the president sought to give them from ongoing violence, prevents the Guard from ensuring the enforcement of federal law, and puts lives and property in danger,” Sauer wrote.
