MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The standoff between County Clerk Wanda Halbert against the City of Millington continued Friday, as a deadline imposed by Millington to resolve a $40,000 dispute over office space passed.
Millington City Manager Frankie Dakin said he had not heard from Halbert regarding the almost $40,000 the city contends Halbert's office owes for space where she operates a Millington branch office.
The city stood by a threat of legal action if payment was not received or another solution reached.
"We’re hopeful a legislative solution can be reached, but if it cannot, we will move forward with legal action," Dakin said.
But Halbert also stood by her assertion that her office owed Millington nothing, because there was no signed lease with her office.
