SANTA CLARA – Brock Purdy continues to make progress in his rehab from a toe injury but the 49ers quarterback will not play in Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons.

Coach Kyle Shanahan made the announcement following practice Friday, where Purdy was a limited participant.

“He was able to get out there and throw more,” Shanahan said. "It was definitely a step further ahead than it was last week.”

Purdy and Mac Jones took turns throwing in individual passing drills during Friday’s portion of practice that was open to the media. Whatever team drills that were conducted were closed to reporters. Purdy has missed the previous two games and four of the 49ers first six games this season due to the toe injury.

During that time, Jones has proven to be a reliable back-up.
