To channel our inner NSYNC, an open date two Saturdays ago gave Marshall’s football team time for a reset to say “Bye Bye Bye” to its defensive struggles.

West Virginia is hoping that coming off an idle week of its own puts it in a “Better Place” when the Mountaineers return to action Saturday.

The Thundering Herd used its week away after a 54-51 overtime loss to Louisiana on the bayou on Sept. 27 to shore up a leaky defense.

Coming out of the bye, first-year coach Tony Gibson dusted off his call sheet and took over calling Marshall’s defense. The Herd responded with a 48-24 whipping of Old Dominion.
