SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - A collective sigh of relief was expressed by landowner rights activists when a bill stopped eminent domain for CO2 pipelines in South Dakota.
While control remains at the state level, some are concerned that a future bill bringing authority to the federal level could change things.
While the eminent domain law continues to hold in South Dakota, Summit Carbon Solutions continues to look for permitting in Iowa.
“They’re not telling us where the CO2 is going and what it will be used for,” said Jessica Mazour, the Iowa Sierra Club Conservation Program Assistant.
While landowners ask for transparency with a pipeline route, they can speculate regarding changes in the diameter of the pipeline.
