Toronto employers, community support groups and job seekers with autism came together Friday at the Metro Hall Convention Centre for a sold-out career fair hosted by a workers’ advocacy group.
Spectrum Works Career Fair co-founders Xavier Pinto and Neil Forester started the company in 2017, when Pinto’s son was diagnosed with autism. Pinto said he wants to make sure his son, who is nonverbal, can achieve anything once he graduates high school.
“Whether you're autistic or not, it would be the same for anyone. You want to work, you want to be able to make an income, you want to be able to take care of your responsibilities,” he told CBC Toronto.
Pinto said job seekers with autism should be able to find their dream job, rather than settling for anything that comes their way.
