BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Every Central Valley community needs water. But what happens when there's too much of it? That's what state and local officials in McFarland are working to solve.
Senate Bill 556 would address long-standing flood control challenges in rural communities across Kern County and the Central Valley -- including areas near Poso Creek -- where there have been repeated floods.
Senator Melissa Hurtado authored the bill, which hopes to bring millions to the area.
"It's not an easy thing to secure, but here we are with $21 million for the communities across the Senate District, including the committee of McFarland," Hurtado said.
The money would fund infrastructure that would redirect floodwater away from agriculture sites and communities.
