OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Omaha City Council member Brinker Harding updated his proposal Wednesday, laying out the steps and actions the city will take once an encampment is found under the new ordinance, before fines and/or jail time would occur.

Through his change to the proposed ordinance, once an unlawful encampment is found, the person living there will get a written notice to remove it, then OPD will contact a designated person with the mayor’s office and report the citation.

Services and support will be provided to those in the encampments, and if the help is accepted before the arraignment date on their citation, the person in the encampment will not face prosecution.
