MADISON, Wis. -- Madison firefighters were able to locate and quickly put out a fire on the roof of UnityPoint Health-Meriter Hospital Friday night.
Firefighters were called to the hospital just after 8 p.m. Smoke was found in a fifth-floor mechanical room and fire was found on a roof. Firefighters believe the hospital's air-handling systems near the fire had brought the smoke into the building. There was no actual fire inside the hospital.
The fire was out as of 9:15 p.m. and nobody was hurt. The Emergency Department and 6th floor of the hospital were briefly evacuated, but patients have since begun to return.
The Madison Fire Department's Fire Investigation Team is looking into the origin and cause of the fire. Traffic along South Park Street was being temporarily blocked for emergenc
