OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - A community baby shower in Council Bluffs today offered abuse survivors supplies and hope. It was put on by Catholic Charities’ Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault program.

Domestic violence can affect anyone, but there are some groups more likely to experience it.

A spokesperson with Catholic Charities says people who are pregnant and people who are homeless are more likely to experience domestic violence.

Sarah entered the Salvation Army building in Council Bluffs with her youngest child Stella, and her best friend Salena for the baby shower. She left with a box full of supplies -- and then some.

“You do whatever you can for your kids,” Sarah said.

“Being pregnant increases your chances of experiencing domestic violence,” said Kelyn Anker, director of programs
