LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - Three games into the season, and Michigan State's hockey team has picked up a statement win.
The third-ranked Spartans took down No. 1 Boston on the road Friday night, 4-2, in front of a nationally televised audience.
In a game featuring 34 total NHL draft picks, 23 for Boston and 11 for MSU, it was seen live on ESPN2.
The first period set the tone for MSU. Charlie Stramel and Eric Nilson scored in the first eight minutes of the game to give the Spartans a 2-0 lead.
After Boston got on the board later in the period, freshman Cayden Lindstrom scored his first goal as a Spartan to make it 3-1 MSU after the first period.
No goals were scored in the second period, and sophomore Shane Vansaghi added Michigan State's final goal two minutes into the third period.
