The mayor urged residents to stay vigilant and informed about legal rights

Santa Monica Mayor Lana Negrete said she is “heartbroken” following reports that federal immigration agents detained individuals Friday morning at a Pico Boulevard car wash.

According to Negrete, the incident occurred around 10 a.m. at the Santa Monica Car Wash near Gilbert’s El Indio restaurant. The mayor said between two and four people were reportedly taken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.

City officials are working to confirm details and to connect those affected and their families with local legal and social services, Negrete said.
