Jamie Melham has fought back tears after achieving the biggest win of her career in the Caulfield Cup on Saturday.

Melhman became the first female jockey to win the $5 million feature, steering favourite Half Yours to victory in the world’s richest 2400m turf handicap.

Trained by father-and-son duo Tony and Calvin McEvoy, Half Yours beat River Of Stars in a thrilling finish.

Third home was Valiant King and Presage Nocturne was fourth.

Melham timed her run to perfection in a “10 out of 10 ride”, according to Bruce McAvaney.

Speaking to Channel 7’s Charlotte Littlefield immediately after the race, Melham was overcome with emotion.
