AFTER A TESTY WEEK, Executive Councilor David Wheeler , R-Milford, got Gov. Kelly Ayotte to call a special meeting for Saturday so the council could take up a critically needed $700,000 contract to fix Route 12 in Charlestown, which for months has been limited to one-lane traffic.

The 12:30 p.m. session was scheduled for the Bridges House Mansion in Concord.

“I hope that Washington can look to New Hampshire and learn a thing or two about settling disagreements,” Ayotte said.

Wheeler held up the Route 12 contract along with 21 others on Wednesday because they lacked supporting documents the council had been getting until Ayotte became governor and started taking steps on her own to reduce the council’s paperwork pile.
