CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating after a man was found dead early Saturday morning in east Charlotte.

Officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon around 2 a.m. in the 1300 block of Wembley Drive, CMPD said. When they arrived, police found a male victim with life-threatening injuries. Medic pronounced him dead at the scene.

CMPD's Homicide Unit is leading the investigation.

The Charlotte Fire Department, Medic and members from CMPD's Operations Command and Victim Services also responded to the scene.

Police have not released the victim's identity or any information about potential suspects.
