LANSING, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The New River Gorge Bridge has officially closed to vehicles as thousands gather for Bridge Day, West Virginia’s largest one-day festival.
U.S. Route 19 at the bridge closed to traffic at 7 a.m. and is expected to reopen after 5 p.m.
Pedestrian access begins at 9 a.m., giving visitors the chance to walk across the iconic span, visit vendors, and watch BASE jumpers take the plunge into the gorge below.
Shuttle services for attendees begin running at 8:30 a.m. to help transport visitors to and from the event area.
