A 26-year-old man has been taken to hospital with what Niagara Regional Police describe as critical but not life-threatening injuries following a shooting in St. Catharines Friday night.

Around 10:20 p.m. police were called to a plaza at the corner of Vine Street and Old Pine Trail about a male that had been shot.

Police say they found a man with a gunshot wound.

He was taken to an out-of-town hospital for treatment.

Police, who were on the scene for several hours, are seeking two masked men in connection with the shooting.

Detectives are asking anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the shooting or anyone who may have dashcam footage, video surveillance or any other pertinent information to call the Niagara Regional Police Service at 905-688-4111 , option 3, ext. 1
