SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) -- East Syracuse Minoa High School is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its student-run credit union, which was one of the first of its kind in New York State.
The credit union, established in partnership with Beginnings Credit Union, provides students with hands-on experience in finance and banking. It also serves as an educational tool, with students teaching younger peers about savings and financial literacy.
"It's just very rewarding to stay involved with a program I was very passionate about twenty years ago and now I get to oversee it," Laura Edick, who was a student when the branch opened, said. Now a Beginnings employee, she oversees the student credit union's operations, known as the "Spartan Branch."
