TOWN OF SEYMOUR, Wis. -- Law enforcement in Lafayette County seized 18 dogs and found another dog dead Friday in a case of severe animal neglect, Sheriff Reg Gill said.

Deputies were initially called to a property on Wardsville Road near the intersection with County Highway U at around 7 p.m. Thursday for a welfare check. While there, they learned that numerous dogs were being neglected.

On Friday, at around 7:50 a.m., deputies returned to the property along with staff from the Green County Humane Society. Nobody was home when they arrived.

They returned again at around 1:15 p.m. and seized 18 living dogs and one dead dog. The dogs were of various ages ranging from small puppies to adult dogs. All of the dogs were German Shepherds.

The owner of the dogs, a 37-year-old man, was arrested
