PENRYN, Calif. —

Placer County officials voted to reject parts of a proposal for a 240-unit affordable housing complex in Penryn, causing the project to pause and residents to express relief.

The Hope Way Apartments were proposed for an 11-acre lot on Penryn Road, with the county expecting 800 people to move in, nearly doubling Penryn's current population.

"Stoked. I was very happy," Penryn resident Brian Myers said, after the vote came down denying the proposal. "It's not an opposition to people coming here. It's in opposition to so many people coming here that they overwhelm the community."

Myers is the chairman of Placer Citizens for Neighborhood Rights – a corporation founded specifically to fight this project.
