In a Truth Social post, Trump defended Santos as a “rogue” but said his punishment was excessive compared to what he described as greater “frauds” in politics, singling out Democratic Sen. Richard Blumenthal’s false claims about serving in Vietnam. Trump also claimed Santos had been “horribly mistreated” in solitary confinement and said he signed the commutation for Santos’ “immediate release.”
