Volunteers lit oil lamps illuminating the path leading up to the India gate memorial in New Delhi on Saturday ahead of the festival of lights, Diwali.

Diwali festival symbolizes the victory of light over darkness and marks the return of Hindu god Rama to his birthplace Ayodhya after vanquishing the demon king Ravana, according to the mythological epic Ramayana.

A drone show depicting the story of Ramayana was shown next to India Gate memorial, organised by the Delhi government.

Diwali is typically celebrated by socializing and exchanging gifts with family and friends, and fireworks are set off as part of the celebrations.
