KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) - The San Francisco Giants are 'closing in' on hiring Tennessee Baseball head coach Tony Vitello as its manager, The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal first reported on Saturday.
News 6 reached out to the University of Tennessee communication staff and is waiting for official confirmation.
Tennessee is approaching Vitello’s ninth season as the Vols head coach. He took over the program in 2017 and completely turned operations around, leading the Vols to their first national championship in 2024.
Following the national title, Vitello was granted a five-year contract extension, which made him the highest-paid college baseball coach at the time.
