URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) -- Technology upgrades are coming to the Champaign County Emergency Management Agency thanks to a grant worth over $13,000 from Norfolk Southern Railway.
The office’s coordinator, John Dwyer, said the grant worth $13,478 is coming at a good time, with federal budget cuts taking away certain grants from the agency already.
This grant will help them pay for new laptops in their emergency operations center and help update equipment in their mobile command center. Dwyer said having the most up-to-date technology is essential when a major weather event hits.
"We tell people in emergency management to have a primary and at least two alternates. Same thing with technology," Dwyer said. "Because when things go wrong, they happen at the worst possible moment."
Dwyer said his
